After extensive negotiations and enduring ups and downs, Liverpool has finally reached an agreement to extend Mohamed Salah’s contract for an additional three seasons, making him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.
With Sadio Mane’s move to Bayern Munich and Roberto Firmino also seeking an exit, following the emergence of new attacking players at Anfield, the formidable attacking trio that once graced “The Kop” has completely disbanded. Faced with the risk of losing their prolific goal scorer, Mohamed Salah, manager Jurgen Klopp has pushed Liverpool’s leadership to actively engage in negotiations with the Egyptian star after months of stalled talks.
On Friday night (local time), Liverpool’s official website joyfully announced that Mohamed Salah has agreed to sign a contract extension until 2025, committing himself to the club for a total of eight seasons. The English media seems to lack a consensus on the exact figures regarding Salah’s new salary, a crucial aspect that has caused the negotiations between the two parties to stagnate.
However, as confirmed by the Daily Mail, Liverpool has made the decision to pay Mohamed Salah £400,000 per week to retain one of the best goal-scoring stars in the club’s history. Over the past five years, Salah has made 254 appearances and scored a total of 156 goals in all competitions. He now officially becomes the highest-paid player in the Premier League, surpassing both Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United) and Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City), who earn £385,000 per week. It also exceeds the salary of new signing Erling Haaland, who receives £375,000 per week after his recent move to Etihad Stadium.
According to statistics from the Daily Mail, Salah currently ranks as the fourth-highest-paid player in the world, trailing behind the superstar trio at PSG: Kylian Mbappe (£1 million per week), Lionel Messi (£960,000 per week), and Neymar (£606,000 per week). The Egyptian star was awarded the Player of the Season for 2021-2022 by the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) and the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) in England, recognizing his significant contributions to Liverpool’s triumph in the FA Cup and League Cup.
Salah’s salary only comes second to the PSG superstar trio, including Neymar.
